There are two main types of servers

Rack servers are best suited to computer cabinets where a number of servers will need to be accommodated. They are specially designed to keep cool in a confined space.

Tower servers are floor standing and can be stored under desks or in cupboards. These are ideal for small businesses or departmental servers.

The correct server choice is paramount to a smooth running network and from our perspective there is no benefit in us recommending an incorrect one either. We want your network to run smoothly too. This is why Kogo are IBM Business Partners.

IBM’s range of servers are a perfect match for all types of Small and Medium sized Businesses. They have a proven record in build quality and innovation. They also have high levels of reliability and renowned technical support.

Kogo can assist in determining the best type of server for your requirements. There are many other features to bear in mind when configuring your server. If you are handling a few number of users for file and print activity you will not need a powerful processor but if you have databases such as Exchange Server and SQL Server and/or support many users you may want to consider dual or quad core processors. The correct amount of RAM keeps a server running smoothly too. Insufficient RAM will put extra burden on the hard disks. The hard disks too need to have enough capacity for your future growth and should have a “RAID” configuration where data is written to two or more disks for redundancy. Also a comprehensive backup procedure should be in place to make sure all of the data is safe. It is worthwhile going through a disaster recovery process at least once a year to ensure your can rebuild and recover your data in an emergency.
